About the instructor:
Anna Boček Tomanová – Woodcarver
Anna combines traditional craftsmanship with a distinctive artistic approach. She has been drawn to wood since childhood—woodcarving was a natural part of her family environment. Still, she had to find her own path. From an initial enthusiasm for classical carving, her studies in conceptual sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts (FaVU), Brno University of Technology, led her toward broader thinking about material, space, and meaning. She later gained experience in a restoration workshop abroad, deepening her respect for traditional techniques and detail.
Today, she works in her studio in České Chalupy near Brloh, in the Blanský les landscape. Here she creates both small, finely crafted objects and bold, standalone works—and occasionally, even a chainsaw becomes part of her expressive toolkit.
Anna believes that craft is fundamental—and that the workshop is open to anyone with the desire to create. Her work connects the romance of freedom with the honesty of traditional craftsmanship. Whether it is functional objects, sacred motifs, restoration of traditional house ornamentation, or original sculptures, she always seeks a dialogue with both the material and the person for whom the piece is created.
During the workshop, she will give you a glimpse into her process—into the world of wood, form, the scent of sawdust, and the joy of well-crafted work.
