The Days of Military History will bring back the almost forgotten story of Český Krumlov’s tank brigade
What does Český Krumlov have to do with British military equipment and Czechoslovak soldiers who fought alongside the Allies during the Second World War? The answer can be found at the Days of Military History – “Padesátdvojka” (“Fifty-Two”) in Český Krumlov, taking place on September 18–19, 2026, in the Brewery Gardens at Port 1560.
The event commemorates the 80th anniversary of the arrival of the 12th Tank Brigade in Český Krumlov. The unit’s history began during the war in Great Britain, where it was formed before seeing combat at Dunkirk. After the war, its members moved to Český Krumlov. Yet today, its story remains an almost forgotten chapter of the town’s history.
Visitors will learn about the stories of Czechoslovak soldiers, including men from the Český Krumlov region, and get a glimpse into military life in a period military camp. Historical uniforms, weapons and equipment will be on display, along with British military vehicles and technology, which are less familiar in the Czech context. Modern equipment of the Czech Armed Forces will also be presented.
The programme will include dynamic demonstrations, talks, competitions for children, the chance to try out a “basic military training” and an exhibition of historical documents. Friday morning is primarily reserved for school groups.
