Sváteční pop is a band formed by the collaboration of hyperactive visual artists and musicians Petr Nikl, Milan Cais, Ondřej Smeykal, and Jiří Hradil, who have found a common performative language on the border of cabaret poetry, ambient, solitary songwriting, and energetic dance music.
Members:
Petr Nikl, co-author of the exhibition From the Mist, painter, illustrator, writer, musician, and winner of many awards – including the Jindřich Chalupecký Award and the Magnesia Litera.
Milan Cais, visual artist, drummer, singer, and lyricist of the band Tatabojs.
Ondřej Smeykal, visual artist and musician, professional player and pioneer of the didgeridoo and electro-didgeridoo.
Jiří Hradil, ex-Tata Bojs, Umakart, Kafka Band, keyboard player and composer, who, among other things, writes music for film, theatre, and dance, as well as songs for various performers and music groups or ensembles.
All members contribute equally to the stage form of Sváteční pop, using every possible musical and visual means that fits the moment. “We use projections and sound-visual objects and accumulate our shared potential and diverse musical experiences,” says Petr Nikl.
